GMB Viewers Furious Over Taylor Swift Wedding Coverage

Good Morning Britain viewers expressed frustration during Friday's episode as the ITV programme devoted a substantial portion of its coverage to pop star Taylor Swift and NFL player Travis Kelce's speculated wedding. Presenters Ranvir Singh and Kate Garraway anchored the show from the ITV studio on July 3, addressing the day's top stories, but the focus on the celebrity couple drew backlash from the audience.

Wedding Speculation at Madison Square Garden

Reports suggest that Swift and Kelce may be marrying at Madison Square Garden in New York City this weekend. Notable figures close to the couple, including actress Lena Dunham and musical collaborator Jack Antonoff, were seen on July 2 dressed in formal wear. Overhead footage also captured a convoy of black SUVs arriving at the venue, with attendees being escorted under a white marquee.

During the broadcast, Ranvir remarked: "It's a love story that's the talk of New York. If the rumours are true, then Taylor Swift is set to marry her fiancé Travis Kelce at Madison Square Garden this weekend." Correspondent Ashna Hurynag, reporting live from New York, added: "They are no stranger to an arena or a stadium, but could this be, the most famous arena in the world, could it be their chosen venue for their wedding?"

Police Presence and Cost

Hurynag described the scene: "Well, this is the cost it's come at, barriers everywhere across New York. Complete gridlock. In fact, this is a main road [and] I'm able to walk in the middle of it because there are police absolutely everywhere. It's an extraordinary police presence." She noted that hiring the venue for three days, billed as a "wedding palooza," has cost approximately £3 million.

Hurynag continued: "So, here's what we know so far. A rehearsal dinner with some 100 guests or so wrapped up a few hours ago. The idea is that a celebration or party of some kind is planned for tomorrow night. Over 1,000 people have been invited, including Graham Norton, Dua Lipa, Ed Sheeran, to name but a few, who have been spotted milling around New York City. More on that to come in the next hour. As for myself, I've not managed to secure an invite just yet, here's hoping!"

Viewer Backlash

Kate and Ranvir then discussed the wedding with pundits Salma Shah and Caroline Flint, but viewers were far from impressed. Many took to social media to express their displeasure. One person wrote on X: "So far screaming kids and Taylor Swift, have I got the wrong channel. Is this @cbbc or #gmb." Another posted: "4 grown a** women screeching about Taylor Swift's wedding." A third commented: "Turned on the TV to accompany my breakfast and #GMB came on. Four screaming harridans all screeching over the top of each other...couldn't turn that over fast enough!"

Someone else shared: "They're all shouting at each other!" with a fifth viewer adding: "It ground my gears this morning." Good Morning Britain airs weekdays on ITV1 and ITVX at 6am.
