Good Morning Britain viewers were left divided during an interview with Welsh content creator Tom Christopher, who recently sparked outrage by hauling a bathtub up a mountain and leaving it there.
During Monday's (July 27) live show, hosts Richard Madeley and Kate Garraway spoke to the 25-year-old, who posted footage of himself transporting the tub up Pen y Fan in Bannau Brycheiniog National Park — also known as the Brecon Beacons — while wearing flip-flops, before taking a bath at the peak.
Although he intended to carry the bath back down, he left it behind after fellow walkers persuaded him to leave it so they could photograph it. The incident drew significant criticism over environmental concerns.
Apology and Presenters' Response
During his GMB appearance, Tom sat topless in the studio and issued another apology. He also said he lacked the funds to pay any potential fly-tipping fine.
Richard Madeley, 70, admitted he had felt uncertain about Tom before the interview but changed his mind after their conversation. "I thought you were a bit of an idiot and lazy leaving it up there. Now you've explained the situation, I think we should show a bit of leniency," he said.
Kate Garraway said Tom could be her son and viewed the situation from a mother's perspective, playfully telling him to "put some clothes on". She added: "It is crackers because you caused a problem but you didn't mean to."
Tom conceded he is the "villain" in the situation but maintained: "It's a good story."
Viewer Reactions
Despite the presenters' softened stance, Tom's appearance intensified criticism on social media, with many calling him an "attention seeker".
One X user wrote: "The worst attention seeker I have ever seen. Get this tool off the screen immediately." Another commented: "Why are you giving this loser the attention he desperately wants with his pathetic 'social media' stunts?"
A third said: "I don't care if he can't afford. Make him take out a loan and pay it off." A fourth remarked: "Is he trying to crowdfund for his fine? He's not going to get any support with his attitude."
Others questioned his lack of clothing: "Why does this guy not have any clothes on?" while another simply said: "Ridiculous."
However, not all viewers were critical. One stated: "Tom Christopher on @GMB is a lovely lad. Yes, he did wrong but I believe it was a genuine fluff up." Another wrote: "This guy is hilarious & meant well, leave him be, he's a breath of fresh air," and a third said: "He didn't do any harm but should have taken it down earlier - back in the day young lads did worse."
