Gerwyn Price has admitted he 'can't be bothered' with darts at the moment, citing distractions from his real estate and farming ventures. The Welsh darts star, who became world champion five years ago, has yet to win the World Matchplay.
Price's entrepreneurial ventures
Since 2020, Price has invested in real estate, flipping properties across Wales. In 2024, he opened a chip shop, Chippy 501, in his home village of Markham. In February 2026, he purchased a farm in South Wales, which he is currently renovating.
Price withdrew from the World Cup of Darts, previously attributed to medical problems, but he now says the farm planning has zapped his focus.
Struggles with motivation
Speaking at the US Darts Masters in New York, Price said: 'I just couldn't be a**** to be up there. I just had a funny feeling. I'd rather be in the house.'
He added: 'The last couple of months, I just haven't been mentally with it and have just been going through the motions.'
Focus on the farm
When asked how he can improve, Price said: 'Get the farm finished. I've got things going on at home that are distracting me a little bit.'
He explained: 'When I'm away, I don't want to be away. I want to be at home, and I want things to be happening around the farm and with the planning I've got going on. So when I turn up, I can't be bothered to be there, and it shouldn't be that way.'
World Matchplay ambitions
Despite his distractions, Price still has ambitions in major tournaments: 'I want to win ranking events, I want to win the Matchplay, I want to win the Grand Prix, the Grand Slam, the World Championship.'
He admitted his chip shop venture affected his game in 2024: 'That's probably why I was losing and playing rubbish - my mind was elsewhere. I've got cameras in the shop and I was always checking them on my phone. Yeah, it can affect the oche.'
Past World Matchplay performance
Price failed to get past the first round of the Matchplay from 2017 to 2020, and in 2021 he only managed two wins. In 2022, he reached his first final, hitting a nine-darter in the semis before losing to Michael van Gerwen. He reached the quarter-finals in 2025.
