Gemma Collins has become the first contestant to leave this year's I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here, ITV has confirmed. The Towie star told producers she wanted to quit permanently after struggling with jungle life.
A spokesperson for ITV said: 'We're sorry to see Gemma go but respect her decision and wish her well.' No official reason has been given for her exit, but viewers have witnessed her difficulties with camp life, including self-diagnosing malaria and claiming to have 'the worst diarrhoea ever'.
Collins has also faced significant online trolling, with claims of 'fat shaming'. In a recent interview, she spoke about being abused in the street: 'Oh my God, you're so fat - die. It's really distressing.' She added that people shout at her car and call her a 'fat cow', which 'really hurts'.
During the emotional interview, Collins also discussed caring for her mother, who is 'very ill with arthritis'. She said: 'So when you go from doing that to people shouting at you in the car, it's just ridiculous and it just makes you not want to do this anymore.'
Collins expressed that her friends cannot believe the abuse she receives, and she feels 'it's not going to stop until I lose weight'. The incident has reignited discussions about laws on social media and what can and cannot be tweeted.
