Gary Windass Coronation Street exit confirmed after 18 years

Sarah Platt (Tina O’Brien) has been arrested in Coronation Street, putting Gary Windass (Mikey North) in jeopardy. The character was arrested earlier this week for murdering Theo Silverton (James Cartwright).

Sarah's arrest and cover-up

A few months ago, Sarah endured a showdown with Theo, which eventually resulted in her hitting him with a metal pole. He then fell over some scaffolding and onto the floor. In the immediate aftermath, Sarah called ex-partner Gary for help. Gary, who has experience covering up murders, was confident that if they stayed quiet, someone else would go to prison for Theo’s murder. He felt relatively in control, but Sarah did not.

Sarah’s guilt eventually saw her crumble and reveal her secret to boyfriend and copper Kit Green (Jacob Roberts). Lisa Connor-Swain (Vicky Myers) previously made it clear to Kit that Sarah is their prime suspect, but she was suspicious that he helped his partner cover up the murder due to his attempt to retrieve Sarah’s clothes from the evidence store. It was clear Kit could no longer save Sarah from life behind bars.

Kit's advice and Maria's visit

In her cell, Kit explained the situation to his girlfriend, and she was terrified. Kit advised Sarah to plead self-defence and tell everyone that Gary forced her to cover up Theo’s death. This would increase Sarah's chances of a smaller sentence or freedom but also raise the possibility of Gary going to prison. If Sarah does nothing, she will go to prison for murder.

As the week draws to a close, Maria Connor (Samia Longchambon) visits Sarah and rails at her for involving Gary in Theo’s death.

Sarah's decision

With no other option, Sarah decides to come clean to Lisa about killing Theo. The big question is whether she will drag Gary under the bus with her. Gary has managed to get away with a lot in his life, but his luck may have finally run out.
