Gary Lineker to Star in Prime Video Docuseries in 2027

Gary Lineker's life and career is set to be explored in an upcoming four-part docuseries on Prime Video set to air in 2027, which comes after the broadcaster quit the BBC last year.

Series Details and Content

Currently titled Lineker, the series will tell the story of the former footballer's life and 50-year career in sport and broadcasting. The show will feature archive footage from Lineker's early years, including his childhood in Leicester. There will also be insights from the star himself along with interviews with his family members, fellow footballers and critics.

Executive producer Nat Lippiett said: "The World Cup hero, the Match Of The Day presenter, the activist or even the face of crisps – for decades he has been at the centre of the national conversation."

Fellow executive producer Dan Grabiner said: “This series goes beyond the headlines to reveal the many sides of one of Britain's most recognisable and divisive figures, with candid insight from Gary himself and those closest to both his triumphs and controversies.”

A post on Instagram, reshared by Lineker, also confirmed the move. It read: "Coming soon - A no-holds-barred docuseries telling the definitive story of Gary Lineker's life and career."

"With nostalgic and unseen personal archive, from his childhood in Leicester to emerging as a footballing superstar, before becoming a renowned broadcaster, entrepreneur, podcaster and so much more - ‘Lineker’ is the story of one of England's original international football icons."

Career and Personal Life

Lineker, 65, began his career at Leicester City before moving to clubs including Everton, Barcelona and Tottenham Hotspur. He made his debut for England in 1984 and scored 48 goals over an eight-year period, making him England's then second-highest goalscorer on his retirement.

Lineker's broadcasting career began with presenting Match Of The Day in 1999, a role he held until 2025. In May of that year, he also confirmed he would leave the BBC after presenting his final episode of the famous football show, which brings highlights and analysis of that day's games in the Premier League.

Meanwhile, in 2018, Lineker co-founded media company Goalhanger, which produces several podcasts under The Rest Is… brand. As for his personal life, Lineker has been married twice, to Michelle Cockayne from 1986 to 2006 and Danielle Bux from 2009 to 2016. He is father to George, 34, Harry, 32, Tobias, 30, and Angus, 28, with Ms Cockayne.
