Gabby Logan has revealed that her rugby-playing son Reuben regretted an interview after his comments about her podcast sparked headlines suggesting he wanted her to stop talking about her sex life. The BBC presenter shared the story on The Romesh Ranganathan Show, explaining that her family is generally relaxed about the stories she tells publicly, but this episode led to widespread coverage last year.
Family Reaction to Public Stories
Asked by Romesh Ranganathan whether there were things her family wished she wouldn't discuss, Logan replied: "They're usually pretty cool, actually." She then focused on her son Reuben, who joined Sale Sharks last year, and how an innocent anecdote snowballed into a media storm.
"Reuben had his own experience of being caught out recently," she said. "He did an interview when he just arrived at Sale Sharks, where he is playing now, and he said something about me talking about my sex life and how he was in the changing room at Northampton Saints and someone was playing the podcast out. And it was me talking about why orgasms are good for you, on the podcast!"
The Interview That Sparked Headlines
Logan explained that Reuben told the story to a journalist, and they were laughing, but the headline became: 'I wish my mum would stop talking about her sex life'. She then revealed the story prompted an apologetic message from her 20-year-old son.
"He then screen grabbed it and put it on the family WhatsApp group and said: 'My bad!'" Logan said. "He then learnt from that. He's quite savvy and able to see it for what it is. He's quite relaxed about it."
Reuben's Original Comments
The comments relate to an interview Reuben gave last year, when he admitted he had pleaded with his mother to tone down some of the more intimate conversations on her The Mid Point podcast. Speaking at the time, the Scotland Under-20 international said: "I will openly say now that I said: 'Can. You. Please. Stop.'"
"I remember being in the gym at Saints and the podcast was being played for half the gym session. It was only my second or third month there. I did not know that that podcast had happened until I had heard it and I remember saying to her: 'What have you been talking about online?'"
"'It's good!' she said. I said: 'I'm sure it is but you do have a late-teenage son in a rugby environment, so you have to think about that!'" Reuben explained that team-mates at Northampton had played clips from the podcast in the changing room to tease him after Logan openly discussed topics including her and Kenny's sex life following the former Scotland international's prostate cancer treatment.
Reuben's Rugby Career
Reuben started his rugby career at Wasps academy before moving to Northampton in 2023. After some time with Hinckley RFC in National 2 West, he turned out for England at both U18s and U20s level. However, Reuben - who also qualifies for Wales as Gabby's dad is the former Wales football manager Terry Yorath - chose to follow in his dad's footsteps last year, playing for Scotland U20s in the Six Nations.
