The original cast of Four Weddings and a Funeral is reuniting for a short sequel to mark the 25th anniversary of the film. The new production, directed by Mike Newell and written by Richard Curtis, will be screened in the UK on Red Nose Day 2019.
Hugh Grant, Andie MacDowell, Kristin Scott Thomas and Rowan Atkinson are among the stars confirmed to return. The sequel picks up 25 years after the original, with the characters gathering for a fifth wedding. Curtis said: 'We’re all definitely older – I suspect no wiser. It’s been really enjoyable working out what’s happened to all the characters – and now they get back together for the fifth wedding. Where, as usual, not everything will go as planned.'
John Hannah, Anna Chancellor, James Fleet and David Haig will also reprise their roles. The late Charlotte Coleman and Corin Redgrave, who died in 2001 and 2010 respectively, are not included. The original film, released in 1994, was a landmark for Working Title, earning Baftas for best film, actor, director and supporting actress, and a Golden Globe for Grant.
The sequel airs on BBC1 on 15 March 2019 and on NBC in the US in May. Curtis, co-founder of Red Nose Day, previously wrote and directed a similar Love Actually reunion for the charity in 2017.
