Danny Dyer Defends Sending Kids to Private School, Jokes About 'Nepo Baby' Lifestyle

EastEnders star Danny Dyer has defended his decision to send his children to private school, taking a cheeky swipe at their privileged upbringing. The 47-year-old actor, known for his working-class roots, was questioned during an ITV interview for the show The Assembly, where he faced queries from autistic, neurodivergent, and learning disabled people.

When asked how 'working class' it was to send his son to private school, Dyer acknowledged the irony but explained his reasoning. 'I'm very proud of my roots, but do I want to be living in an environment where... there's helicopters going over my house all the time and sirens all the time, a lot of crime? Of course you don't,' he said. He added that he wanted to give his children the best opportunities, though noted it 'backfires slightly' as they are now 'not street-wise.'

Dyer joked that his children—Sunnie, Dani (of Love Island fame), and Arty—have likely never taken a bus, being driven 'door to door by a Bentley.' The actor also revealed the emotional reason he quit EastEnders in 2022, saying he didn't want to see his character Mick Carter killed off by Janine Butcher. He admitted the soap had 'saved his life' when his career was struggling, but a change in producer led to storylines he disliked.
