Josh Duhamel has spoken candidly about his split from Fergie after eight years of marriage, revealing that the couple 'just outgrew each other'. The 50-year-old actor, known for his roles in Shotgun Wedding and Safe Haven, discussed the end of their relationship in an interview with Graham Bensinger.
Duhamel admitted that he had wanted the Black Eyed Peas singer to be a different version of herself, and she wanted the same for him. 'I think we both agree that we’re just very different,' he said. 'We made an awesome kid. We get along great, and we get to raise him without any acrimony.'
The former couple, who share 10-year-old son Axl, officially parted ways in September 2017. Duhamel confessed that he never felt comfortable with the level of fame that came with being married to Fergie. 'I missed the simplicity of who I really am,' he said. 'I’m just not a guy who is comfortable doing red carpets, doing all the Hollywood stuff.'
Despite the struggles, Duhamel said he has made peace with that part of his life and maintains a great relationship with Fergie. 'We didn’t want to go the same thing to our kid,' he explained, noting that both came from families with divorced parents who did not end on amicable terms. 'We both just wanted the same thing, and that is to create an easy place for him.'
Duhamel now lives in North Dakota with his second wife, Audra Mari, whom he married in September 2022. The couple are expecting their first child together, making Axl a big brother.
