Fay Lenore, the actress who appeared in Crossroads and Take the High Road, has died aged 97. Her family confirmed that she passed away on 8 January 2026 at Ythanvale Care Home in Ellon, Aberdeenshire.
Born Mary Leonora Faith Dodwell, she performed for over six decades, beginning her stage career at just 18 months old. She shared the stage with stars such as Rikki Fulton and Stanley Baxter, and took on male roles in post-war pantomimes.
In 1954, she performed for Queen Elizabeth II and the Duke of Edinburgh at the 25th Royal Variety Show at the London Palladium. She later had roles in the soap Crossroads in the 1960s and Scottish TV drama Take the High Road in the 1980s.
She married Highland Games champion Jay Scott in 1957, and they had two children. The family faced tragedies including a house fire and a serious car crash that required facial reconstruction. Jay died of a heart attack in 1997. Fay is survived by her daughter Shona, son Rob, and grandchildren.
A celebration of her life will be held on 6 February. Her family described her as a 'shining star' whose 'final curtain call' will honour her legacy.
