Coronation Street fans rushed to social media after spotting a moving detail involving Carla Connor-Swain in Betsy Swain's hospital scenes. As those who follow the ITV soap know, the teenager is currently recovering in the hospital after suffering two strokes in heartbreaking scenes aired last week.
Ryan Connor was the one to find the teenager collapsed on the kitchen floor of their home, No.6 Coronation Street, before she was rushed to the hospital, fighting for her life. Doctors later confirmed that the teenager had suffered a stroke, something her mum, Lisa Connor-Swain, struggled to get her head around due to her daughter's age, and there was further horror when, once her condition appeared to stabilise, Betsy suffered a second stroke.
Betsy's recovery and the cause of her strokes
It was after this that doctors confirmed it had been caused by a blood clot, which was the result of neck artery damage from a temporary loss of circulation. Doctors spoke to Betsy about the cause, which is when the teen had to explain to her mum, Lisa Connor-Swain, that her boyfriend, Dylan Wilson, had strangled her during consensual sex, despite both believing the pressure applied was minimal.
Since then, Betsy has been told it is possible that she will make a "good recovery", and she's been trying to plead with her mum, aka DS Connor-Swain, to leave Dylan alone, after she reported him to the police and could face charges if Betsy decides to move forward with pressing charges.
Fans spot Carla's sweet gesture
In the coming months, viewers will witness Betsy's challenging recovery as she transitions from hospital to home and navigates significant life changes. Corrie says that the storyline will highlight the profound physical and emotional impact of a stroke at such a young age as Betsy battles to adjust to her new reality. At the moment, the start of Betsy's recovery is taking place in the hospital, with Lisa, Carla, Ryan, and her friends, Lauren Bolton and Brody Michaelis, all making sure to visit and keep her company. Dylan, however, was warned to stay away. He did make an appearance at the hospital during Tuesday's (July 21) episode, and as he still denied any involvement in what happened to Betsy.
Ryan, who is Carla's nephew, stepped in to explain the cause of her strokes. "I'm not having a go," he said. "It was both of you, I get it. I've been in a couple of situations myself where it was… It's just a bit of a kink, isn't it?" before sharing that even he didn't know the damage that could be caused.
But as mentioned, it was during the latest visit to Weatherfield General during Wednesday's (July 22) Corrie that fans were distracted by one of Betsy's get-well cards, seemingly from Carla. Trying to zoom in on the sweet gesture, @swarlaera2 commented: "I need this enhanced because I think it's from Carla #Swarla #Corrie." @carlasbarlow figured out some of the message, writing: "'Our darling girl. what you've been through is huge but you are strong, brave, and surrounded by people who care about you so much!'" @Izzy1728047 replied: "Further proof that Carla Connor has the biggest & most loving heart, only she could write words of encouragement, strength & love in such a beautiful & personal way. Carla you are amazing #Swarla." @thatsmypeachx admitted: "SoBBiNg!!!!!"
