Oasis have expressed their shock and sadness after a man in his 40s died following a fall at Wembley Stadium during their concert on Saturday night. The Metropolitan Police confirmed that officers responded to reports of an injured person at 10.19pm, and the man was pronounced dead at the scene with injuries consistent with a fall.
The fan is understood to have been sitting in the upper tier of the 90,000-seat stadium, where the highest stands are 50 metres above ground. Police believe many people may have witnessed the incident or inadvertently captured it on mobile phone footage, and have appealed for information.
In a statement, Oasis said: 'We are shocked and saddened to hear of the tragic death of a fan at the show last night. Oasis would like to extend our sincere condolences to the family and friends of the person involved.'
During their Sunday night Wembley show, the band dedicated the song 'Live Forever' to 'all the people who can’t be here tonight'. Liam Gallagher told the crowd: 'This one’s for all the people who can’t be here tonight, but who are here if you know what I mean, and aren’t they looking lovely.'
Wembley Stadium confirmed that medics, the London Ambulance Service and police attended to the concertgoer, but despite efforts he died. The family have been informed and are being supported by specially trained officers.
The Oasis reunion tour, which marks the first time Liam and Noel Gallagher have performed together in 16 years, includes seven shows at Wembley and five in Manchester, followed by dates in the US, Mexico, Japan, South Korea, Australia and South America.
