Princess Eugenie has reportedly apologised to Meghan Markle after a personalised gift the duchess allegedly gave Eugenie was listed on eBay. Last week, royal fans noticed Meghan Markle's children's book The Bench, which appeared to have a personalised signed message inside to Princess Eugenie, was being advertised for sale on eBay for almost £20,000.
Book's background and listing details
The children's book was published in 2021 and detailed a loving story about the relationship between a father and son, as seen from a mother's perspective. It is believed the book was inspired by Meghan's own experience of watching her husband, Prince Harry, with their son, Prince Archie.
According to an eBay listing, which has since been removed, Princess Eugenie may have received a signed copy from Meghan in 2021. A copy of the book was listed on the website, featuring a message that appears to have been written by Meghan to Eugenie and her husband, Jack Brooksbank.
Handwritten message and apology
The message appears to be handwritten and is in Meghan's trademark calligraphy-style handwriting, which she has often spoken about and used on her As Ever products. It has not been confirmed whether the message and signature were written by Meghan or whether the book was received by Eugenie, as suggested by this listing and the photographs.
Meghan's alleged message to Eugenie, written inside her children's book, reads: "2021. Dear Eug & Jack, Celebrating the special bond between father and son. I wrote this poem at Frogmore - I hope that Eug, you witness the same love there with your guys. All love, Meghan."
Now, it has been reported by sources that Princess Eugenie - Harry's cousin - has called Meghan to apologise that the book ended up for sale. It is believed Prince Harry's cousin is "horrified" by the situation.
A source told Rob Shuter's Naughty But Nice substack: "Eugenie called Meghan herself. She was horrified the book had somehow ended up for sale and made it absolutely clear she would never knowingly sell a personal gift from Meghan."
Response and reaction
Meghan Markle's spokesperson was contacted by The Daily Express for comment last week to see if this really was a signed book gifted to Eugenie by Meghan. The listing was removed on Friday by the seller on eBay.
Royal fans were quick to talk about it on X, with some calling it "hilarious". Others were questioning how legitimate the eBay listing was.
