English WAG Backs Argentina at World Cup Despite England Ties

Kelci-Rose Bowers, a 22-year-old English footballer from Fareham, Hampshire, has been openly supporting Argentina at the World Cup, despite having played for England's women's national team at the under-21 level. Her allegiance stems from her relationship with Tottenham and Argentina defender Marcos Senesi, 29, who is part of Lionel Scaloni's squad.

Bowers' Public Support for Argentina

Bowers has been spotted wearing Argentina-themed clothing at several matches during the tournament. On Instagram, where she has 335,000 followers, she posted asking which Argentina jersey to wear ahead of a group stage victory over Austria. For the round-of-16 match against Egypt, which Argentina won controversially 3-2, she wore a blue denim jacket with Argentina-inspired designs. After the game, she shared photos from the stadium with Senesi, captioning: "About yesterday… It’s hard to put into words, something we have all dreamed about, you never fail to make us all so proud, wherever you are, we follow!" Senesi replied: "Thank you for always being there xx love you!"

England vs. Argentina Semifinal Clash

Bowers' loyalties face their biggest test when England take on Argentina in Atlanta on Wednesday evening for a place in the World Cup final. She was again decked out in blue and white as Argentina beat Switzerland 3-1 in the quarter-finals, posting again with the caption "About yesterday." Senesi has made one appearance for Argentina, playing 90 minutes in a 3-0 win against Jordan in the final group stage match.

Bowers' Football Career

Bowers played for England at under-21 level, once captioning a photo: "Always an honour to wear this shirt." She spent time in the USA playing for Louisiana State University before returning to the UK. She joined Bournemouth, where she met Senesi, and made 70 appearances for the club, scoring 11 goals. During her time there, she won the FA Women’s National League Division One South West title, the National League Plate, and the National League Cup. Bournemouth confirmed her departure on June 5.

Senesi's Move to Tottenham

Senesi moved to Tottenham on a free transfer this summer after a late call-up to Argentina's World Cup squad, replacing the injured Leonardo Balerdi. The couple has been dating for a couple of years.
