England assistant manager Anthony Barry has enjoyed a well deserved rest after the World Cup with a trip to a Merseyside bar. The 40-year-old was a key part of the Three Lions' campaign this summer, which came to an end with a 2 - 1 defeat to Argentina.
Barry's World Cup role
Barry, who hails from Liverpool, was a prominent figure in the tournament as his half time interviews provided detailed insight into Thomas Tuchel's tactics. Barry won praise for his honesty and ability to eloquently dissect the game during the half time intervals. The 40-year-old was overcome with emotion during his final half time interval in the play-off game against France after England raced to a 4 - 0 lead.
Speaking to the BBC, he said: "I have to be honest, no frustration. I'm a little bit emotional, I'm struggling to find the words to describe how proud I am of these players. They're playing the game with broken hearts. I see 11 lads with broken hearts, seen them in the last two days, broken hearts. They can build a performance like that through playing for England. The team spirit we've built the last seven weeks, it's been a privilege to watch. I know what the cynics will say, 'It's too late'. But we still play against a world-class opponent."
Visit to Bus Yard
Barry has returned home to Liverpool after the World Cup across the Atlantic. He enjoyed a visit to Bus Yard in Crosby as he was welcomed into the beach side bar.
