The 78th Primetime Emmy Awards have sparked controversy two months before the ceremony, with several major shows and actors missing out on nominations. Among the most notable snubs are Netflix's Stranger Things and its stars, along with key actors from The Bear and Euphoria.
Stranger Things, which concluded with a polarising final season, failed to secure a nomination for Outstanding Drama Series. Stars David Harbour, Millie Bobby Brown, and Jamie Campbell Bower were also overlooked. Meanwhile, The Bear earned a nod for Outstanding Comedy Series but its lead actor Jeremy Allen White, a two-time winner, was not nominated. Ebon Moss-Bachrach, a previous supporting actor winner, also missed out.
HBO's Euphoria, starring Zendaya and Sydney Sweeney, was snubbed for Outstanding Drama Series despite its popular final season. Additionally, Selena Gomez was left out of the lead actress in a comedy category for Only Murders in the Building, while her co-star Martin Short received a nomination. Kathy Bates, who was nominated in 2025 for her role in Matlock, was completely omitted this year.
Steve Carell's series Rooster managed to avoid a complete shutout thanks to his Best Actor nomination. The show, about sexual politics in college, otherwise failed to earn any other nods. The winners will be announced in September.
