Emmerdale star Danny Miller has marked one year of sobriety, expressing gratitude for his family's support during his journey. The actor, who plays Aaron Dingle on the ITV soap, shared an emotional video on social media detailing his milestone.
One Year Sober Milestone
In the video, Miller said: "Hi, I'm Danny, I'm 35 and today marks one year of sobriety. One year since I last had a drink, one year of reinventing myself for my family. Trying to better myself for my children, for my wife, for my family." He admitted it was an "emotional day" because he never believed it was achievable. He noted that he started his sobriety on a Friday, despite thinking "who gives up drink on a Friday?"
Family Support and Inspiration
Miller praised his wife Steph as "an absolute rock" throughout his journey, despite his occasional cravings for a drink. He clarified: "I'm not an alcoholic by any means. This is to better myself for my family, for my career, for my children. Mainly I wanted them to get the best version of me without me being frustrated that they were there and were present when I wasn't during a hangover and it became too much."
Alongside a family photo, he wrote: "Collecting moments, not things. Grateful for every mile, every laugh, and every memory made together." He also joked about turning their family adventures into a TV show.
Co-Star's Role
Miller revealed on his podcast, You Don't Know You're Born!, that his co-star Isabel Hodgins, who plays Victoria Sugden, was the inspiration behind his decision to go sober. He recalled asking her, "How do I stop drinking?" and said she was "amazing" with him. She later gave him a six-month and a one-year sobriety chip.
Emmerdale airs weeknights at 8pm on ITV1 and streams on ITVX from 7am.
