Emmerdale has issued an update regarding the potential return of Steph Miligan, 10 months after her departure from the ITV soap. The character, played by actress Georgia Jay, left the Dales last year for a yoga retreat in Rome, but recent episodes have reignited speculation about her comeback.
Steph's Storyline and Departure
Georgia Jay made her Emmerdale debut two years ago as Steph Miligan, the daughter of Ruby and Caleb. She arrived in the village alongside her grandfather Anthony Fox, unaware of his troubling past. It was later revealed through flashbacks that Anthony had sexually abused Ruby when she was a teenager. The situation worsened when a DNA test confirmed that Steph was Anthony's biological daughter. Ruby killed Anthony after Aaron Dingle delivered several deadly punches, driven by his own history with an abusive father. Ruby then confessed everything to Steph, causing her to spiral. Steph even considered plastic surgery, unable to see anything but Anthony in her reflection. Eventually, she announced she was flying to Rome for a yoga retreat, leaving despite Ross Barton's pleas to stay.
Recent Mentions and Update
In recent episodes, Steph was mentioned again after an AI copy of her voice was used to scam Caleb out of thousands of pounds. On Friday, June 12, Ruby noticed Caleb missing his daughter. When Chas asked if Steph might return, Ruby replied: "I doubt it. She's all settled now. She's got a new bloke. They're off on holiday in Thailand. Don't tell Caleb she's there. She doesn't want him to know – he worries!"
Georgia Jay still looks fondly on her time in the Yorkshire-based soap. On Instagram, she shared snaps with on-screen parents William Ash and Beth Cordingly, as well as Ross Barton actor Michael Parr, writing: "Can't believe I left the village nearly a year ago! Miss you Steph, and everyone who made it so special."
Since her Emmerdale exit, Georgia appeared in ITV's The Hack, a drama about the phone hacking scandal set between 2002 and 2012.
