In a new Emmerdale spoiler video, Moira Dingle (Natalie J Robb) desperately tries to get through to her husband Cain (Jeff Hordley) as he becomes increasingly obsessed with saving their dog Monty from cancer, despite refusing his own life-saving treatment. The emotional scenes highlight the painful irony of Cain’s determination to fight for Monty while he has given up on himself.
Cain’s Cancer Journey
Cain’s battle with prostate cancer began after a large mass was discovered during an MRI scan following the Corriedale disaster. The once-dominant Dingle struggled with the vulnerability of a disease he couldn’t fight with his fists. He faced difficult decisions about surgery, which came with side effects including impotence and incontinence. After initially suggesting Moira leave him to spare her future pain, Cain eventually underwent the operation. However, a car accident delayed his recovery, and further hospital visits revealed he needed additional treatment, which could make the side effects permanent. Unable to bear this prospect, Cain declared he would seek no further treatment.
Kyle’s Actions and Monty’s Diagnosis
Meanwhile, the ongoing feud between the Dingles and Tates escalated when young Kyle Winchester (Huey Quinn) became involved. After a confrontation with Graham Foster (Andrew Scarborough), Joe Tate (Ned Porteous), and Kim Tate (Claire King), Kyle fled home and later clashed violently with Cain. In a fit of fury, Kyle set fire to a barn, unaware that the family dog Monty was trapped inside. Cain rescued Monty and rushed him to Paddy Kirk (Dominic Brunt), who delivered devastating news: while the fire caused no lasting damage, Monty has advanced cancer.
Moira’s Plea Falls on Deaf Ears
Next week, Cain clings to hope that Monty can be saved, planning to seek a second opinion from another vet. Moira gently tries to point out the parallels between Monty’s condition and Cain’s own cancer—his determination to save the dog contrasts starkly with his refusal to continue treatment for himself. As the day of the vet appointment arrives, Moira offers to accompany Cain and suggests getting coffee first, but he coldly rejects her. When she hints that the second opinion may only confirm the first, Cain snaps, insisting he won’t give up on Monty. Moira withdraws briefly but tries again, only for Cain to leave abruptly, ending the conversation.
What’s Next for Cain?
The question remains: will Monty’s inevitable death be the final blow for Cain, or could it finally open his eyes to his own need for treatment? Emmerdale airs weeknights on ITV.
