Emmerdale viewers have been left outraged over a Serena Sugden storyline blunder, with one fan branding it "silly" and another calling the plot "so far-fetched." The character, played by Casey Al-Shaqsy, made her debut on the ITV soap last month, arriving to support a distressed Charity Dingle (Emma Atkins) following her recent harrowing ordeal.
Serena's Rapid Rise Behind the Bar Sparks Fan Fury
As viewers will recall, Charity fell victim to a horrific sexual assault at the hands of sinister Dr Todd (Caroline Harker), who has been blackmailing her over the true parentage of Leyla Sugden. Serena and Charity quickly bonded, leading Serena to move to the village. She also disclosed to Robert Sugden (Ryan Hawley) that her grandfather was Robert's father's cousin, settling into village life and forging connections with locals while reuniting with family members.
The newcomer also secured a position working behind the bar at The Woolpack. However, fans have been left furious over just how swiftly and effortlessly Serena managed to land the barmaid role, according to the Daily Star.
Fans Vent on Social Media
Venting their frustration on a Coronation Street Facebook fan page, one viewer demanded: "How has Serena got a job behind bar so fast?" Another added: "So far-fetched." A third simply wrote: "Silly!" Sharing the same sentiment, another commented: "I was just thinking that myself."
A fifth penned: "Yes my daughter asked 'why is it so easy to get a job in Emmerdale and Corrie? You just walk into the pub and they offer you a job!'"
Actress Casey Al-Shaqsy on Joining the Soap
Discussing her arrival on the soap, Serena actress Casey said: "I would say it feels amazing to be a Sugden. It feels like I'm becoming a very small part of history actually." She added: "She's going to mingle with a lot of different characters, I think, and I'm very, very happy about that because there's some incredible legends and amazing actors and people to work with. Let's just say she's going to be an incredible person to play, and hopefully you all love her or hate her in the bestest ways."
The television star also teased: "So Serena as a person, I'd say she puts her foot in her mouth quite a lot. She's quite loud and a little bit outspoken. I do think there's elements of both good and bad in her. She's come into a lovely family situation. Or is it lovely? You'll see."
Emmerdale airs Monday to Friday at 8:00pm on ITV1 and ITVX.
