Emmerdale fans have been left divided as they call out an "obvious" new romance that could blossom between two villagers. Viewers are wondering if the long-standing relationship of Nicola and Jimmy King could be coming to an end this year as Sadie King is set to return unexpectedly to the Dales.
Nicola and Kev's growing bond
Nicola has been dealing with Kev Barton (formerly Townsend) who came back to the village hoping to bond with his biological son, Lewis. Both Nicola and Ross have been protective over Lewis, worried that Kev will let him down. They even went as far as to stage a robbery at the cafe to pin the blame on Kev.
However, some viewers think that Nicola and Kev may end up together especially with Sadie returning to the Dales this year. They might not be too far from the truth either, as the ITV soap confirmed they will get closer.
Producer hints at unlikely friendship
Speaking exclusively to Inside Soap, Emmerdale revealed that Kev is due to develop an unlikely friendship with fan favourite Nicola King. Producer Laura Shaw explained: "As we know, Nicola has taken on a motherly role with Lewis, so we will be seeing more of her and Kev. Later on in the year, Nicola's going to have a few troubles of her own that Kev is going to be supportive with…"

Some viewers are hoping it will happen, as u/wonderful-cow-9664 penned: "Oh I would LOVE that!!! Feisty Nicola was a thing of the past until Kev rocked up". However, others aren't so sure as u/seashook said: "The fact people are for this to happen makes me despair. Jimmy and Nicola are/were one of the longest running and most believable couples in the show, but sure, who cares any more!"
