The Dingle family in Emmerdale continues to face relentless turmoil. Early this year, Cain Dingle (Jeff Hordley) received a prostate cancer diagnosis while his wife Moira Dingle (Natalie J Robb) was imprisoned for crimes she did not commit. The situation worsened due to Joe Tate (Ned Porteous), who manipulated and blackmailed Moira to seize Butler's Farm. Moira is now free and living at Wishing Well with other Dingles, finding focus on the new Dingle farm. Meanwhile, Cain has been consumed by worry over side effects from his prostate cancer surgery, particularly incontinence, leading him to hide away from the world.
Cain's Struggle with Incontinence
A conversation with Liam Cavanagh (Jonny McPherson) encouraged Cain to make progress. He purchased leak-proof underwear online, realizing he should not let post-surgery ruin his life. Adapting to his new normal, Cain asked his son Kyle Winchester (Huey Quinn) to attend his Army Cadet swearing-in ceremony. Kyle was thrilled to reconnect with his father after fearing he was unwanted. However, at the event, Kyle took the oath but noticed Cain's empty chair. Unbeknownst to Kyle, Cain had rushed to the Woolpack toilets after spotting a wet patch on his trousers.
Hiding in a cubicle, Cain received support from Charles Anderson (Kevin Mathurin), who brought clean trousers. Charles and Bob Hope (Tony Audenshaw) comforted Cain, assuring discretion, and encouraged him to return to the ceremony. Cain eventually did, confessing his accident to Kyle and apologizing for missing the swearing-in. Kyle reassured his dad, saying he was just glad he came back.
Cancer Spread and Family Secrets
Despite returning, Cain remained troubled. Later in the week, he confessed to Moira that his health issues made him feel 'less of a man.' They visited the hospital, where Ms Rhodes revealed that although Cain's surgery was successful, tests indicated the cancer had likely spread slightly. Devastated, Cain learned he would need further treatment but must wait months for his body to heal. Ms Rhodes also warned that radiotherapy could make current side effects permanent. The couple decided not to tell the boys, but family secrets were soon revealed again.
Charity's Ongoing Struggle
Elsewhere, Charity Dingle (Emma Atkins) continues to struggle after being sexually assaulted by Doctor Caitlin Todd (Caroline Harker). Manpreet Sharma (Rebecca Sarker) prescribed medication under the impression Charity has postnatal depression. When Mackenzie Boyd (Lawrence Robb) returned, Charity was upset to learn he told Sarah Sugden (Katie Hill) about her troubles. Alone, Charity washed down sleeping pills with wine. Unable to share her real pain, she deflected conversations back to PND and lack of sleep. Mackenzie later consoled a devastated Sarah, believing surrogacy caused Charity's turmoil.
