Vanessa Woodfield (Michelle Hardwick) has hinted she may be the one to murder Dr Caitlin Todd (Caroline Harker) in Emmerdale, after declaring the surgeon 'at least needs to pay in some other way'.
Vanessa has been struggling to process the truth about Dr Todd, who she was in a relationship with when the surgeon lived in the village. Vanessa fell for Caitlin's charm and believed her comments about Jacob Sugden (Joe-Warren Plant) being obsessed with her.
Charity Dingle (Emma Atkins) tried to warn Vanessa off Caitlin when she started being blackmailed by the surgeon, but Vanessa thought Charity was just a jealous ex. Vanessa later worked out that Charity's change in behaviour was down to Dr Todd after being questioned by DS Reid (Angela Lonsdale). She then learned about the ordeal Caitlin put Charity through.
Case dropped and new victim found
Earlier this week, Vanessa, Charity and Mackenzie Boyd (Lawrence Robb) learned that the CPS were dropping the case against Caitlin. Mack and Vanessa were determined to find proof that Dr Todd has more victims, leading Vanessa to the hospital.
After a chat with HR rep Carol, Vanessa met a woman called Helen. Charity arrived and the two women discovered that Helen was also sexually assaulted by Dr Todd. Charity hoped Helen would report her attack to increase the chance of Caitlin getting convicted, but Helen decided against it. Charity understood that Helen didn't want to dig up her past after working hard to move forward.
Charity and Mack reconcile
The conversation with Helen inspired Charity to implement new steps to move forward. She suggested Mackenzie think about how he can help himself regarding Ross Barton (Michael Parr). Mack met with Ross and spoke about not being sure if he loves his wife more than he hates what she did. Ross pointed out that Mackenzie shouldn't let a stupid mistake stop his world from spinning.
In the pub, Mack told Charity about his chat with Ross, making it clear he only did it for their relationship. Determined to move forward, Charity and Mack appear to be back on the same page.
Vanessa's dangerous comment
Still angry over everything Caitlin has done, Vanessa ranted to Mack about how the woman is better off in prison. Vanessa then said that if Todd isn't going to get sentenced for her crimes, she 'at least needs to pay in some other way'. This is a risky thing to say, as someone will murder Dr Todd in the near future, hinting that Vanessa may become the killer.
