Emily Atack has apologised to locals in the Spanish town of Mojacar as she married Alistair Garner for the second time in a number of weeks. The Inbetweeners star, 36, exchanged vows again with her husband, 40, in front of almost 200 guests in the hilltop town.
Apology to onlookers
Emily arrived at the courtyard of the 16th century church in a red Cadillac, joined by her two-year-old son, Barney, at the wheel. Locals had gathered to watch the scenes, and the actress said in an apologetic tone to the crowd: "This is all a bit over the top isn't it?"
The event comes months after Dua Lipa caused chaos in Sicily with her flamboyant wedding to Callum Turner. The duo faced criticism after ordering streets to be blocked off in the capital, with locals graffitied walls insisting: "Palermo is not for sale." Despite Emily's sincere tones, it's thought locals weren't as put off as those for Dua's wedding.
Sentimental venue choice
Emily previously revealed the reason behind choosing the scenic venue for her second vows. The spot is where her musician dad Keith once had a holiday home, and Emily spent a number of summers there when she was young. Speaking about her love of the town, she explained: "It’s our favourite place on Earth and we still go every single year. I loved my family holidays there growing up."
Speaking about her husband, she added: "All the cliches of life become true when you fall in love and have a baby. He's my rock, but he really, literally, is my rock. I couldn't do life with anyone else but him."
Wedding details
For the latest ceremony, each table of guests had a special word attached, with the seating chart named after the word 'Love' in a number of different languages, including German, Scottish Gaelic, Hawaiian, Greek, Swahili, Korean, Spanish, Arabic, Indonesian, Fijian and Filipino.
The registrar at the ceremony told guests: "I expect some of you in here are experiencing some Deja vu." The comments referred to the couple's first wedding three weeks earlier, which took place in Bedfordshire. Emily and Alistair quietly married in a church in the UK last month, followed by a party in the garden at their Bedfordshire mansion.
