Elysium, a nightclub on Eberle Street in Liverpool's Pride Quarter, has confirmed it will not reopen anytime soon. The venue has been closed since a fire in September 2024 and remains shut with its entrance covered by a plank of wood.
Fire Incident and Aftermath
The club closed in September 2024 after a fire broke out in the roof space of the three-storey building. Six fire engines and an aerial appliance attended, and Eberle Street was closed while crews worked. Four firefighters in breathing apparatus fought the fire internally with two hose reel jets, while one main jet was used externally. Several car parks on Tempest Hey were also blocked off.
The venue had already been shut prior to the blaze. Since the fire, it has not reopened. The ECHO contacted Elysium Nightclub for comment, and the team confirmed it will reopen this year as renovations are ongoing.
History and New Venue
Elysium opened in 2023 in the former Garlands venue, promising to stay true to Garlands' ethos. It featured live music and house DJs, with a capacity of 1,200, and aimed to serve as a private event space.
For Pride, a new LGBTQ+ club called Campus will open on Saturday, July 25, in the former OMG space on Victoria Street. Owned by Amy Gwynn, who also runs GBar, Campus is designed around house party and kitchen disco atmospheres.
Andy Locker, DJ and club promoter for Campus, said: "Campus is about bringing people together and reminding everyone why they fell in love with going out in the first place. We've created a venue that's playful, nostalgic and full of personality, where every room tells a story and everyone is made to feel welcome."
The venue spans two floors: The Kitchen on the ground floor serves as the main dancefloor with pop and party anthems, while The Living Room upstairs offers a relaxed space for drinks and conversation. The theme includes playful references to campus life, with drag performers as "professors."
