Elton John's Husband David Furnish Provides Health Update Amid Singer's Blindness Battle

David Furnish, the husband of Sir Elton John, has offered a reassuring update on the music legend's condition as he continues to cope with severe vision loss. The 78-year-old singer was left blind in one eye and with limited vision in the other after contracting a serious eye infection in July 2024.

Speaking to Variety, Furnish said Elton is 'keeping busy' and 'battling on' while spending time with their family. 'He's great,' Furnish stated. 'He's keeping busy and moving forward. He's happy being at home as a family with our sons.' The couple have two sons, Zachary, 15, and Elijah, 13, born via surrogacy.

Elton previously revealed the infection had left him unable to see, watch, or read anything, preventing him from working on new music or viewing recent projects such as the documentary Elton John: Never Too Late and the musical adaptation of The Devil Wears Prada. In November 2025, he described the past year as 'challenging' and 'devastating', but expressed hope that science would eventually find a cure.

'There is hope,' Elton told Variety. 'I've just gotta be patient that someday science will help me with this one.' He also advised others to 'be stoic' and 'always try and batter the door down to try and improve things'.
