Jacob Elordi and Kendall Jenner have discovered the first rule of disguises: if your disguise is so dramatic that everyone stops to stare at you, it might not be working. The Hollywood couple were spotted attempting to slip unnoticed through Brisbane Airport over the weekend, apparently embracing the timeless stealth technique of dressing like two celebrities desperately trying not to look like celebrities.
Despite covering themselves from head to toe, the pair were quickly recognised, photographed and roasted by Australians online, who were spectacularly unconvinced by the undercover operation. In April, the Australian actor, 29, sparked rumours he was dating the American model, 30, after they were seen at Coachella together, and they have been spotted out and about together ever since.
Disguise Details and Public Reaction
Kendall wore an oversized beige trench coat over loose black trousers, carrying a giant green leather handbag reportedly worth around $5,000, while both she and Jacob obscured much of their faces in what appeared to be an effort to avoid being recognised. Unfortunately, nothing says 'please don't look at me' quite like two impossibly tall people dressed like they are transporting state secrets through customs. The couple were also sweetly holding hands, which, while adorable, does slightly undermine the whole 'you will never identify us' strategy.
Social media users wasted no time poking fun at the attempt at going incognito. 'You are actors, get over yourself,' one person commented. Another wrote: 'Jacob and Kendall taking themselves wayyyyyy too seriously.' A third wasn't convinced Australians were exactly waiting outside the terminal for an Elordi sighting, adding: 'You're in Australia. No one cares who the f**k you are.'
Criticism of the Disguise Strategy
Others pointed out that, ironically, the disguises probably attracted more attention than simply walking through the airport normally. 'The masks may have worked in 2020-2021 but now they just bring more attention 😂,' one person joked. Another Brisbane local insisted the city is famously relaxed when it comes to celebrities. 'Oh eff off. I'm from Brisbane and I guarantee they did not need to dress like this. This is attention seeking,' they wrote. 'Literally Matt Damon and the Hemsworth clan walk around Brisbane and no one gives a s**t. If you are an AFL or NRL player you would absolutely be more harassed than these two.'
Someone else questioned the entire logic of the operation: 'What's the point of covering face like this if you're gonna be so obvious lol.' 'Toooo ridiculous, they really want to be the spotlight,' another added.
To be fair to Jacob and Kendall, airports are one of the few places where celebrities can expect photographers to be waiting around, which is likely stressful after the brutally long flight from LA to Brisbane. But still, the ideal disguise should make people think, 'I wonder who that tall guy is?' Not, 'Who are those two suspiciously glamorous people trying incredibly hard not to look like Jacob Elordi and Kendall Jenner?'
Recent Sightings in Australia
The airport sighting comes after Kendall has reportedly been spending more time in Australia with the Saltburn actor. The pair were recently photographed taking an early morning walk through Byron Bay with Jacob's golden retriever, Layla, before stopping for breakfast at the Byron Bay General Store. Kendall is understood to have been staying at Jacob's secluded rainforest home near Byron Bay while the couple enjoy some downtime together. If they are hoping for complete anonymity, though, they may have to accept failure.
