Elizabeth Hurley has described it as 'odd but fabulous' after Love Island host Maya Jama wore a dress similar to the iconic Versace pin dress she donned 31 years ago. Maya Jama turned heads at the MTV Europe Music Awards in Manchester last November in a form-fitting black dress held together with gold pins, reminiscent of the one Hurley wore to the premiere of Four Weddings and a Funeral in 1994.
Hurley, now 60, told The Sun: 'I mean, to me, it’s really odd, but it’s actually kind of fabulous. Over the years, people have said to me, it’s the dress’s 20th birthday, or it’s the dress’s 25th, and I’m like, this is insane.' The original dress, a Versace creation worth £3,000, became one of the most famous red-carpet looks of the 1990s.
Maya Jama, 30, wore the dress on the same night she met her now-boyfriend, Manchester City footballer Ruben Dias, 28. The pair have since been spotted together at various events, including a football match in Portugal and KSI’s Baller League event in London. Reports suggest the relationship has become more serious, with Jama introducing Dias to her mother and taking Portuguese lessons.
In an interview with the Evening Standard around the time of the EMAs, Jama spoke about her relationship goals, saying: 'I am so happy right now but the next person I meet I want to marry and have kids with, so obviously I’m feeling fussy. I’ve created such a nice life for myself alone and I don’t want anyone who’s not going to add to that.'
