Emma Coronel Aispuro, wife of jailed drug lord Joaquin "El Chapo" Guzman, has swapped her cartel-funded lifestyle to become a social media influencer.
The 36-year-old, who was released from prison in 2023 after serving less than three years for drug trafficking and money laundering, now shares beauty secrets and sultry selfies with her 592,000 Instagram followers.
From cartel queen to online celebrity
Coronel married El Chapo on her 18th birthday when he was 50. She was convicted alongside her husband but spared a prison sentence after a plea deal. Her 69-year-old husband, co-founder of the Sinaloa Cartel, remains behind bars serving 30 years for multiple counts including drug trafficking, money laundering, and murder conspiracy. During his trial, a court heard he would beat people for hours before shooting them and burning their bodies, and that he buried rivals alive.
The couple are now separated. Coronel has apologised to El Chapo's victims, saying: "I stand in solidarity with those who have lost a loved one, who have suffered."
New ventures: book and TV series
Coronel is writing a book about her time in prison and has a television series in the works about her husband's life from her perspective. The former beauty queen's transformation comes as the Sinaloa Cartel's other co-founder, El Mayo, 78, was jailed for life this week after being convicted of drugs offences.
