In the track 'Punchline', he sings: 'I can't help but be destructive right now. It's been weeks since I saw your outline.' The chorus includes: 'I can't help it but I love you so. I can't take this letting go. I still feel like we could work it out or something.'
Another song, 'The Day I Was Born', includes the line: 'I broke apart from my lover a couple months ago, if they were here then I guess I wouldn't be alone.' However, it is unclear whether these lyrics reflect Sheeran's personal experiences or are fictional, as he often collaborates with other songwriters.
Sheeran and Seaborn, who married in 2019, have faced significant challenges recently. Sheeran grieved the death of his friend Jamal Edwards, while Seaborn was diagnosed with a tumour during her second pregnancy, with no treatment available until after birth. Sheeran also dealt with multiple copyright legal issues.
In the documentary series 'Ed Sheeran: The Sum of It All', Seaborn said of her diagnosis: 'It made me massively reflect on our mortality.' Sheeran added: 'Music's always been like therapy to me. It was a way to get my thoughts and feelings down.'
