Ed Balls disagreed with an ITV guest after their awkward comment was caught on camera. Reform MP Robert Jenrick was interviewed by Ed and Susanna Reid during the latest episode of Good Morning Britain on Wednesday (July 22).
Interview Ends with Awkward Remark
During the tense conversation, the former Conservative minister was asked about Labour ministers Wes Streeting and Shabana Mahmood's comments on the early prisoner release scheme, which were heard in a video. Wrapping up the interview, Ed said: "Robert Jenrick, that is very clear, thank you very much indeed for joining us this morning."
"Still to come on Good Morning Britain. If a young person in your family is about to head off travelling...," Susanna said as she continued with the show, just before an awkward comment was heard. Jenrick could then be heard saying: "Well, that was a waste of time."
Ed Balls Responds
Ed quickly responded: "I think it wasn't a waste of time. I think Robert Jenrick gave us very clear answers on the police investigation. It's not a waste of time for him to make clear that he believes there's no police investigation." He added: "So, it was good he came on the programme."
Discussion on Police Investigation
During the interview, Jenrick was asked about Nigel Farage's £5 million gift from a billionaire Reform UK donor, which he received back in 2024. Ed said: "You were reportedly warned a number of times that this was a breach of electoral law, hence this police investigation. What is the status of that police investigation? Are you cooperating? What do you think the outcome will be, and when will you know that stain on your reputation has been lifted?"
Jenrick replied: "There's no stain on my reputation, Ed. This is a complete smear that's been put about by the Tory party."
Susanna Reid Clashes with Jenrick
Elsewhere, Jenrick claimed that Susanna was absolving the government of responsibility, following Streeting and Mahmood's comments about the early prisoner release scheme. The ITV presenter was quick to hit back, saying: "Since when did I absolve... Sorry, Mr Jenrick, when did I absolve this government of [responsibility]? No, but don't make a criticism of me that is untrue. When have I absolved this government of responsibility?"
She firmly added: "Don't make a false accusation against me." Good Morning Britain airs weekdays on ITV1 and ITVX at 6am.
