Newcomer Jason Durr is already setting pulses racing as EastEnders’ newest heartthrob, Clive Masters. The character made his presence felt in yesterday’s episode when he arrived on Albert Square as a local councillor, who seems set to charm Linda Carter (Kellie Bright). As Linda’s determined to save the beloved market from redevelopment, Clive rides to the rescue and throws his full support behind the movement, winning Linda’s approval… and maybe a little bit more, if the spark between these two continues to fizzle.
Who is Jason Durr's wife?
However, while Clive might be free and single onscreen, fans may not be aware that actor Jason Durr’s real life wife is a massive star in her own right with an impressive TV CV. Former Heartbeat star Jason married TV presenter Kate Charman in 2004, after the couple met in Majorca, Spain. Kate, a former actor and model, is an accomplished garden designer, so much so that she’s even been awarded a Royal Horticultural Society gold medal.
Not only did Kate enjoy a stint in classic teen soap Grange Hill in 1984, but she went on to star in the 2001 television series Perfect World, a BBC sitcom about obnoxious, lazy and amoral phony marketing executive for a leading toiletries company, and Sam’s Game, an ITV comedy about four friends sharing a house in London. Aside from acting, Kate also had enormous success as a presenter hosting shows such as Dream Ticket, Night Fever, and An Audience with Lennox Lewis, and is best known for her Guinness World Records presenting work.
Family life and sweet tribute
The couple live together in Wiltshire, where Kate often shares pictures of her breathtaking garden on Instagram, along with many gorgeous outdoor designs. They have three children together, two daughters and a son, and usually keep their family out of the spotlight. On Wednesday afternoon this week, Jason appeared on This Morning to talk about his latest EastEnders role and paid a sweet tribute to his ‘lovely’ wife. The star opened up to ITV daytime hosts Dermot O’Leary and Alison Hammond about his personal process of learning lines. ‘You’ve got to be absolutely pinpoint perfect with your dialogue, and it’s just a joy to be working with other regulars, who get it. Keep reading it. It’s one of those things, repetition, parrot fashion, you know, that kind of thing. The kids help me, my lovely wife helps me.’
Jason's previous marriage
Before marrying Kate, Jason was married to an Australian named Jeanine between 1995 and 2000. She was a singer-songwriter, and the pair were together for five years before splitting.
Linda's road to romance
Jason and Kate may have found love, but Linda’s road to romance with Clive is set to be far more treacherous. The ex Queen Vic landlady is yet to find a new fella following the presumed death of her beloved husband Mick Carter (Danny Dyer), who mysteriously disappeared at sea on Christmas Day, 2022. Since that tragic loss, poor Linda’s been as single as a pringle… unless you count the odd bit of flirting with Max Branning (Jake Wood) and a fling with Grant Mitchell (Ross Kemp). Will Clive be her Mister Right? It’s certainly looking that way, as Clive recently hinted at a lot of screentime with actress Kellie Bright, as he spoke about his new role in Walford.
Jason on joining EastEnders
‘Few shows command their place in the national conversation quite like EastEnders, so I’m delighted to be joining the cast as Clive Masters,’ Jason said of his casting. ‘Working with the wonderful Kellie Bright has been an absolute joy and pleasure from day one. All the cast, crew and production staff have been incredibly generous, welcoming and good humoured. I’m excited for audiences to meet Clive and see what’s in store.’
