Eamonn Holmes TV future 'sealed' after stroke as GB News plans replacement
Eamonn Holmes TV future 'sealed' after stroke

Eamonn Holmes' future on television has been called into question as GB News executives reportedly plan for life without him, six months after the presenter suffered a devastating stroke.

The 66-year-old Irish broadcaster has been off air since June, marking his longest absence from presenting since he landed his first gig in 1979. He has not returned home since falling ill in April and continues to receive round-the-clock care, supported by his girlfriend, Katie Alexander, 44.

Executives planning permanent replacement

According to The Daily Mail, producers have held several behind-the-scenes meetings to organise a permanent replacement in the coming months. Sources told the publication: "Nobody has wanted to really admit it, but he isn't going to be back on screen."

The source added: "It's a very sad way for such an illustrious career to end. Eamonn is a very proud man, and his family is just as proud of him. There was every hope he could make a full recovery and get back to doing what he loves, but it hasn't worked out that way."

Conflicting reports over return

However, another source told The Sun that Holmes will be back on the TV station "in no time," adding that there will "always be a home" for him. They said: "Eamonn is under no illusion that it's a long road to recovery, but he won't give up hope. He has been supported by GB News bosses ever since his stroke. It's like a family there."

Holmes last told The Sun in June: "I can't wait to be out of this gown and back in a suit and tie. Watch this space. I'll be back after this break."

Absence from breakfast show

The dad-of-four, who presents the breakfast show alongside Ellie Costello, hasn't appeared on the channel since March 12. He was due to return in April before suffering the stroke and has since been replaced by Alex Armstrong on the morning show. Express.co.uk has reached out to GB News and Eamonn Holmes for a comment.
