TV presenter Eamonn Holmes made a concerning admission live on GB News on Wednesday, revealing he could not see the words on the autocue during a news bulletin. The 65-year-old, who was co-hosting the breakfast show with Ellie Costello, struggled to read a report about artificial intelligence in schools.
Holmes, who often wears reading glasses on air, stumbled over his lines and had to ask Costello to repeat a figure after failing to hear her correctly. He said: 'This comes as the GMB calls for school staff to - I can't see what it says there - to have better training in AI so the next generation know what they are up against.'
The veteran broadcaster has been open about his health issues in recent years. He has suffered from severe back pain and previously described feeling like he is living on 'borrowed time'. His father died of a heart attack at the same age, and in 2018 Holmes developed shingles around his eye, which doctors warned could lead to blindness.
In an acceptance speech at the TRIC Awards 2024, Holmes reflected on his health struggles, saying: 'I went for an operation a year and a half ago and it went wrong.' He did not provide further details about the procedure.
