Dwayne Johnson stayed true to his word and booked out a full cinema for a UK school to watch the latest Moana movie after their plea earlier in the year. The Hollywood star hired an entire cinema room for 200 schoolchildren to watch the film, treating them to all the sweets they could eat. Students from St Gregory Primary School, in Sudbury, Suffolk, along with their friends and family, were thrilled as they got to watch the new live-action Moana movie at the Vue cinema in Colchester, with the actor booking out all nine screens at the venue.
From Viral Video to Cinema Screening
The impressive act of kindness came after the star, who plays Maui, had watched a video of the kids pleading with him to get their head teacher Daniel Woodrow to take them on a school trip to watch the movie. The video, which had gone viral on social media in January, made it all the way to Dwayne. The former WWE legend told them at the time that he would hire out a cinema for them and their friends and family to watch the film. And that's exactly what he did. There was a touching message played to the crowds on the big screens from the main man himself.
Headteacher: 'An Experience They'll Remember Forever'
The experience is something that will stay with the kids 'forever' according to their headteacher. He said: 'If you're in a position to do something for other people and to make a difference to them, then do it. We always tell the children they can make the world a better place, one act of kindness at a time, and here is the biggest movie star on the planet doing just that. I would hope the world is a better place and our children will be kind because of the experience they've had and the example that Dwayne Johnson has set for them.' Speaking to the BBC, the teacher said the evening was 'perfect'. Describing the positive atmosphere, he said around 700 people came to the cinema and the group was 'treated like royalty'.
He said: 'On every seat there were chocolates and jelly sweets and popcorn and Moana cupcakes and a signed Dwayne Johnson poster. The children had the best possible time - they were coming out talking about their favourite bits and singing the song. The whole event was very special.'
Dwayne Johnson's History of Kindness
It's far from the first time Dwayne has created memories for youngsters. In 2023, he uploaded a touching compilation video to his account of his meeting with young Luna Perrone. He revealed the youngster had been suffering with Ewings Sarcoma and the clip features moments from when the pair finally met. He mentioned his own daughters and how meeting with Luna after two-years of contact with her over social media changed his perspective. The actor decided to surprise Luna with some special treats after her condition worsened when the cancer spread. Posting the clip he wrote: 'As a proud and grateful GIRL DAD of three beautiful daughters - when you finally meet the beautiful young girl who’s not only your biggest fan, but she’s also battling cancer and fights for her life... It just has a sobering way of putting everything back into perspective. Reminds us of all the stuff in life that really matters and all the stuff the don’t. @luna_perrone is a REAL LIFE HERO and inspires everyone around her - including me. You stay strong and keep smiling kid… Glad you enjoyed all your surprises and yes, YOUR FLEX is WAY COOLER than mine ~ dj. (I always say it, because it’s the truth - stuff like this will always be the best part of fame).'
