Duffy has been photographed in public for the first time in more than 15 years, days after announcing her music comeback. The 41-year-old stepped back from the spotlight more than a decade ago, following the traumatic kidnapping during which she was drugged and raped.
Following the news of her upcoming concert in London, she was spotted popping into a café in North Wales, just seven miles from her native Nefyn, close to Bangor. The chart-topper visited Caffi Largo, where she chatted with employees and graciously agreed to photographs with the team.
She looked radiant during the low-key visit, with staff sharing a snap of the visit and writing: "Spotted – Celebrity singer from Nefyn, Amy Duffy, popped into the Caffi this morning. Always lovely to see local talent supporting local spots."
Duffy's Harrowing Ordeal
Duffy stepped away from releasing music in 2011 and has remained out of the public eye ever since. The acclaimed artist courageously spoke out in 2020 regarding the harrowing trauma she endured after being drugged and raped during a kidnapping ordeal. Writing on her website, she described how the four-week nightmare left her battling suicidal thoughts.
"It was my birthday, I was drugged at a restaurant, I was drugged then for four weeks and travelled to a foreign country," she wrote. "I can’t remember getting on the plane and came round in the back of a travelling vehicle. I was put into a hotel room and the perpetrator returned and raped me."
At the time, she explained how she then returned home with the perpetrator as the ordeal went on for four horrific weeks, during which she was even drugged inside her own home.
Comeback Announcement
Duffy recently made headlines when she announced her return to the stage for her first gig in 15 years. The concert will take place in London on 5 July, and tickets will be free to gig-goers via a ballot.
Taking to Instagram, she wrote: "I’m doing a secret intimate gig in London on 5th July next month, and I would love nothing more than for some of you to attend. Please visit the link below and leave your details if you want to come. It’s only small capacity so we can only select a few, but really looking forward to it, I will sing some new songs."
This will be the first time fans have heard new music from Duffy in 16 years. In her announcement last month, she shared a picture of herself in the studio captioned: "If only I could find the right words to explain how much I’ve missed you all. Working on coming back to you."
After her debut album, Rockferry, was released to critical acclaim in 2008, fans were baffled when Duffy seemed to have dropped off the face of the Earth.
