Drum 'n' Bass Star Lenzman Dies at 47 After Cancer Fight

Drum 'n' bass musician Lenzman, whose real name was Teije van Vliet, passed away on Saturday 11 July at the age of 47 after a three-and-a-half-year fight with cancer. His wife and two daughters confirmed the heartbreaking news in a statement on Instagram alongside a monochrome photo of the star captured in profile.

Family Statement Confirms Loss

They wrote: "Nothing can prepare you for a loss this great. Yesterday afternoon, July 11th, we had to say goodbye to my beautiful husband Teije and beloved father of our two girls."

"For 3.5 years he fought with so much strength, courage, and love. He showed us what true strength means, and I will forever be proud to have walked this life beside him. From the bottom of our hearts, thank you to everyone who has supported us, loved Teije, sent messages, visited, helped, and stood beside us during this difficult time."

She finished by saying: "Your kindness and love have meant more than words can ever express. We are forever grateful to be surrounded by so many beautiful people."

Career and Health Battle

The Dutch drum 'n' bass icon, who established The North Quarter record label in 2016, launched his debut album Looking At The Stars in 2014. He made his condition public last year, sharing that he had been diagnosed with kidney cancer in January 2023. He had surgery to remove a kidney at the time but was told it had already metastasised and was terminal, reports the Express. Later that year, he was rushed to hospital and underwent emergency brain surgery after collapsing unconscious at home.

Medical professionals had forecast he "likely wouldn't survive" but he "miraculously" recovered. He had reconstructive surgery in 2024 which enabled him to carry on performing and in 2025, he stated that music "helped him stay positive" while receiving treatment.

Fan Tributes

After news of his death broke, one fan said: "Rest in peace Teije. A hero to so many, in and out of music. What a legacy to leave behind, always going to be missed. All love out to you and the family." Someone else said: "Teije, such a lovely amazing and hard working man, rest well. Love and condolences to your beautiful family. It's a heartbreaking day."
