Doja Cat's Ma Vie world tour stop at Melbourne's Rod Laver Arena on Tuesday night showcased the US pop-rapper's ferocious stage presence, backed by a tight band delivering 80s funk. The performance followed a backlash over her brief appearance at a Melbourne club earlier in the week, which ended after three songs due to vocal rest for a sore throat.
The singer, known for her unapologetic attitude, addressed criticism of her Auckland show where fans complained about a lack of costume changes. In a post on X, she stated, 'I'm not your fucking costume monkey, I move at my own pace and break my fucking back out there every night.' Despite the headlines, her Melbourne performance lasted nearly two hours, featuring fireworks, flames, and a bold outfit of a pink wig and leopard print bodysuit.
Doja Cat's setlist included tracks from her 80s-inflected album 'Vie', with standout moments like 'Gorgeous' featuring a sax solo, and older hits such as 'Wet Vagina' and 'Boss Bitch' given funkier arrangements. The crowd sang along to every song, and she ended with a sweet thank you, laughing in delight.
The tour continues in Brisbane on 29 November and Sydney on 1-2 December, before heading internationally.
