Djokovic Reacts to Wimbledon Marriage Proposal During Match

Novak Djokovic's first-round match at Wimbledon against Yibing Wu was briefly interrupted on Centre Court when a spectator proposed to his girlfriend. After the woman accepted, Djokovic showed his appreciation by asking for an invitation to the wedding.

Djokovic's Heartwarming Gesture

As Djokovic walked back to his side of the court at the start of the second set, he noticed the crowd applauding the newly engaged couple. The Serbian tennis star embraced the moment, giving a thumbs up and saying, "I want an invite to the wedding." He then formed a heart shape with his hands, prompting cheers from the Centre Court audience.

The man, with long curly brown hair and wearing a blue shirt and blue glasses, had dropped to one knee to propose. His partner, dressed in a white, blue, and yellow patterned dress with pink sunglasses, happily accepted. The couple beamed back at Djokovic and returned his thumbs up.

BBC presenter Clare Balding initially misunderstood the gesture, saying, "Maybe that thumbs up from Djokovic was to John [McEnroe]?" Andrew Cotter added, "It was a heart he was making so maybe that was to John." McEnroe clarified, explaining, "He just said he wants an invitation to the wedding... this lady was just asked if she would marry that gentleman. Quite a moment for these two." Cotter, however, urged focus on the tennis, saying, "Alright, let's concentrate on the tennis everyone."

Djokovic's Wimbledon Legacy

Seven-time Wimbledon champion Djokovic last won the title in 2022. The 39-year-old has a record 24 Grand Slam titles in his iconic career.
