A family who appeared on the BBC show DIY SOS revealed that filming had to be halted as a camera operator broke down in tears. The programme was renovating the home of Noah Wall, who was diagnosed with Spina Bifida as a baby and was born with a hole in his back and fluid on his brain. He was born with just 2% of the brain he should have had.
After a childhood spent in and out of surgery, Noah and his family were left in a “cold and unsafe” home after his parents were forced to give up work to look after him. As things got emotional on set, filming needed to be stopped.
Family thank Nick Knowles and the team
The family admitted on Instagram: “Thank you Nick Knowles for asking what it’s like having DIY SOS Big Build at your house.. it’s utterly life-changing. The team are very special. The day you open the door, you don’t even need to explain your story – they just know you, as they have seen so much footage of your story.
“Each one of them from DIY SOS holds you tight and their eyes fill up. We couldn’t believe that our family had been chosen!
Cameraman stops filming during emotional story
“We remember the cameraman, Robin, having to stop filming because he was so upset as we started to tell our story on camera. He wanted to capture everything just right as everyone chosen to have DIY SOS visit them has an incredible story to tell.”
The family added: “The immense feeling of gratitude that we feel every day, that you guys and the amazing trades came in to help. We felt the love you all brought, the happiness, the forever friendships; the weight lifted off our shoulders knowing everything is going to be okay, ‘We will make your house a home’.
“This then gave us the much-needed time to care and help Noah grow in the most kind, caring, loving young man he is today. You helped us so much, thank you for wanting to come and help and change our lives forever.”
