Dianne Buswell Fights Tears Over Family Separation Months After Son's Birth
Dianne Buswell Emotional Over Family Separation After Son's Birth

Dianne Buswell, the Strictly Come Dancing professional, became visibly emotional in her latest YouTube vlog while discussing the pain of being separated from her family in Australia, months after the birth of her first child, Bowden.

Dianne's Emotional Vlog About Family

In the video, Buswell, 36, spoke directly to her baby son, nicknamed Bowie, about his relatives on the other side of the world. She said: "I can't wait for you to meet your cousins." Reflecting on reuniting with her family, she added: "I genuinely can't wait. I was thinking the other day, how nice it would be on the weekend... It makes me tear up thinking about it. But just to be able to go and visit mum and dad with Bowie, or go visit my brothers with Bowie and my nieces and nephews, so you could play with them, and they could see how beautiful you are."

Buswell, who won the BBC One dance contest in 2024 with comedian Chris McCausland, welcomed Bowden in March 2026 with her partner, YouTube star Joe Sugg. The couple met on Strictly in 2018 and announced the pregnancy in September 2025.

Longing for Family Connection

Speaking about her niece, Buswell said: "She watches my vlogs, and she sent me a voice note, quite a couple of voice notes from the vlogs, and it just so nearly made me tear up to be honest. Really, really sweet." She continued: "It's very tough being away from family, especially I think when you are bringing up a child and you just want them to feel the love from your family. But we do what we got to do. We call them when we can. We message. They get to watch my vlogs, which is another reason why I love vlogging, because they feel like they're still a part of what I do and a part of my life."

Buswell added: "They can watch the vlogs and feel like they know what I've been up to in the week, and watch him grow as well. So, sorry for getting all emotional."

Return to Strictly 2026

It was recently confirmed that Buswell will return for the 2026 series of Strictly Come Dancing, which begins in autumn. She was named among the professional dancer lineup announced by the BBC last month. Buswell made history as the first pro to knowingly dance on the show while pregnant.

Returning professionals from the 2025 series include Alexis Warr, Amy Dowden, Aljaz Skorjanec, Jowita Przystal, Julian Caillon, Kai Widdrington, Katya Jones, Lauren Oakley, Nancy Xu, Neil Jones, Nikita Kuzmin, Vito Coppola, and Carlos Gu, who won last year with former England footballer Karen Carney. The BBC confirmed new professionals would be recruited to replace Gorka Marquez, Michelle Tsiakkas, Karen Hauer, Nadiya Bychkova, and Luba Mushtuk, who have left the show.
