Diane Keaton, the Oscar-winning actress best known for her roles in Annie Hall and The Godfather trilogy, has died at the age of 79. Her spokesperson confirmed the news on Saturday, stating that she died in California and that the family has asked for privacy.
Keaton's final social media post, shared on April 11 for National Pet Day, showed her smiling alongside her pet Labrador. The post, made in collaboration with retail company Hudson Grace, read: 'Proof our pets have great taste too! Happy National Pet Day from HG & @diane_keaton.'
Fans have since flooded the Instagram post with tributes, calling her a 'true legend' and praising her style, humour and animal advocacy. The post was shared exactly six months before her death.
Keaton rose to fame in the 1970s as Kay Adams in The Godfather. She won the Academy Award for Best Actress for Woody Allen's Annie Hall, becoming associated with the character's menswear-inspired fashion. Her other acclaimed films include Something's Gotta Give, Marvin's Room and Reds.
She never married but adopted a daughter, Dexter, in 1996 and a son, Duke, four years later.
