Perfume Spilt on Dress
According to a royal insider, Diana spilt an entire bottle of perfume on her dress while getting ready. The perfume was from the official royal perfumer, House of Houbigant. Designer Elizabeth Emanuel told British Vogue in 2020: "It was all about drama and making Diana a fairytale princess. The gown was typical of early '80s style — overblown, romantic, flouncy — but we had to get it right because we knew it would go down in history."
Wrinkled Dress From Carriage
Diana's gown, made of ivory silk taffeta with 10,000 micro pearls, had a 25-foot train. It was stuffed into a small carriage for the journey to St. Paul's Cathedral, leaving it wrinkled on arrival.
Wrong Name in Vows
During her vows, the nervous bride accidentally swapped Charles's first names, saying "Philip Charles Arthur George" instead of "Charles Philip Arthur George." She also omitted the word "obey," promising to "love him, comfort him, honour and keep him, in sickness and in health."
