During the interview, Welch made a remark about not being Swift's mother-in-law, saying, 'Not being her mother-in-law is a role that I am glad that I lost.' The comment drew surprise, but Welch later clarified she had nothing against Swift, noting that it is difficult to comment on the singer due to her fans' reactions.
Welch also addressed accusations of changing her accent, with viewers claiming she sounded 'more posh' or 'American.' On Loose Women, she denied the claims, stating, 'I never talked like that in my life,' referring to a Geordie accent. She admitted to picking up inflections from friends but insisted the criticism was unfounded.
Despite the backlash, Welch said she 'honestly loved' appearing on the show and was surprised to be invited. She added that her son Matty has taken Swift's album tracks about him 'in completely good grace' and is now happy with his fiancée Gabbriette.
