Former Loose Women panellist Denise Welch has publicly admitted she was wrong about global superstar Taylor Swift following her controversial 2014 interview comments.
The actress and TV personality, 65, faced backlash a decade ago when she dismissed Swift's songwriting abilities during a heated debate on the ITV daytime show.
'I Completely Misjudged Her'
Welch now concedes: "I hold my hands up - I got Taylor Swift completely wrong." Speaking to The Mirror, she acknowledged Swift's phenomenal success and cultural impact: "What she's achieved is extraordinary. The Eras Tour alone has rewritten music history."
The Infamous 2014 Comments
The original controversy stemmed from Welch's blunt assessment during a Loose Women segment discussing whether Swift was "the new Madonna". Welch had argued: "She writes songs about her ex-boyfriends - that's not exactly groundbreaking."
Her co-stars at the time defended Swift's artistry, but Welch doubled down, questioning whether Swift wrote her own material.
A Decade of Growth
In her recent mea culpa, Welch reflected: "Ten years is a long time in pop music. Taylor hasn't just survived - she's completely dominated. That takes real talent."
The Waterloo Road star praised Swift's business acumen and connection with fans: "Her relationship with the Swifties is something special. She's built an empire while staying authentic."
Swift's Unstoppable Rise
Since Welch's original comments, Swift has:
- Won 14 Grammy Awards
- Broken countless chart records
- Been named Time's Person of the Year
- Launched the highest-grossing concert tour in history
As Welch concludes: "I'm happy to admit when I'm wrong. In this case, I was very wrong."
