Delta Goodrem Announced for Strictly Come Dancing
Australian pop sensation Delta Goodrem has expressed her honour at joining the cast of Strictly Come Dancing, while also admitting to reservations about her dancing abilities. The 41-year-old singer-songwriter discussed her upcoming appearance on the popular BBC competition during an interview on Morning Live.
Goodrem, who rose to fame on the Australian soap Neighbours, said: 'I love the spice of life, all the different varieties. I’ve been so grateful to grow up in the music industry at home and take on challenges, and I love learning.' She added, 'I’m excited to learn from incredible dancers, and the coaches, the judges – I’m like, “tell me everything and I’ll do my very best to give it a go”.'
Comparing Strictly to Eurovision
Goodrem represented Australia at the Eurovision Song Contest in May 2024, where she finished fourth with her power ballad 'Eclipse'. Reflecting on the experience, she said: 'It’s not like going into Eurovision, where that’s my voice and I get to go for it – but I’ll give it everything.' She noted the support she felt from Australia during the contest, calling it 'a treasured life moment'.
The singer also mentioned she will be able to 'start doing the jive and the cha-cha-cha very, very soon' as she prepares for the show.
First Contestants Announced
Goodrem is among the first contestants announced for the latest series of Strictly Come Dancing, alongside stars such as EastEnders actress Lacey Turner, reality star Dani Dyer, and celebrity hair stylist Chris Appleton.
Goodrem rose to fame playing shy teenager Nina Tucker on Neighbours from 2002 to 2003. She returned for several guest appearances, including the finale in 2022 before the show was rebooted by Prime Video. She has also served as a coach on The Voice Australia and achieved five Australian number one albums.
