Dax Shepard was absent from the Actor Awards red carpet on Sunday, despite his wife Kristen Bell hosting the ceremony for the third time. The 51-year-old actor shared on Instagram that he was undergoing colonoscopy preparation, posting a text instructing him to drink only clear liquids with the hashtag 'colonoscopy prep'.
Shepard also posted a tribute to Bell on his Instagram grid, urging fans to watch her host the show. He joked about her 'effortless charm, tasty wit, velvety vocals' and warned viewers with heart conditions to be cautious. Bell responded in the comments, writing 'I looooove you buddy'.
This is not the first time Shepard has missed the event. Ahead of the 2025 ceremony, Bell told People magazine she was unsure if he would attend in person due to babysitting duties. 'He’s his own man and I support him,' she said, noting they have few available babysitters.
The ceremony, formerly known as the SAG Awards, was rebranded as the Actor Awards. Bell admitted to struggling with the name change, telling USA Today there have been 'a lot of slip-ups'. She explained the new name emphasises that actors alone vote on performances, calling it 'what makes it unique'.
