Davina McCall has spoken emotionally about the upcoming series of Long Lost Family, describing it as a “brilliant series” that explores the human spirit. The presenter, who has hosted the show for 13 years, said she feels deeply honoured to help reunite families.
In the new seven-part series, McCall and co-presenter Nicky Campbell will guide participants through poignant searches, including a birth mother seeking her daughter after more than 60 years. McCall called it an “unbelievable privilege” that families share such personal experiences with them.
One episode will focus on the stolen babies scandal in Spain under Francisco Franco’s dictatorship, where hundreds of thousands of infants were taken from parents and given to other families. McCall noted the complexity of such stories, saying the birth mothers have “terrible stories” but that reunions can be complicated.
McCall also spoke warmly about her relationship with Campbell, revealing she initially found him intimidating but now sees him as “sweet and innocent” and a “sensitive and kind person.” She admitted she failed to recognise his voice when he appeared as Dippy Egg on The Masked Singer earlier this year.
The new series of Long Lost Family airs on ITV1.
