David Tennant and Wife Georgia Legally Adopt Stage Surname After 14 Years
David Tennant and Wife Legally Change Surname

In a touching New Year's gesture, beloved actor David Tennant and his wife, actress Georgia Moffett, have made their long-standing stage name official. The couple have legally changed their surname to Tennant, a move that coincides with the celebration of their 14th wedding anniversary.

A New Year's Resolution Made Official

The formal change was recorded on New Year's Day, nearly 14 years to the day after they married on New Year's Eve in 2011. Both David, 54, and Georgia, 41, updated their details for their business Sandyboy Ltd on Companies House. In a further personal touch, Georgia also changed her title from Ms to Mrs.

The couple, who share five children, have a unique connection to the world of Doctor Who. They first met on the set of the iconic series in 2008, where Georgia played the role of Jenny, the Doctor's daughter. Intriguingly, her real-life father, Peter Davison, is the actor who portrayed the Fifth Doctor.

The Story Behind the Name 'Tennant'

This legal shift finally aligns David's personal life with the professional name he chose as a teenager. Born David McDonald, he was required to select a new name when joining the actors' union Equity, as another performer already had the same surname.

He previously explained the origin on BBC's The One Show, recounting, "I went through a copy of Smash Hits and I found Neil Tennant from the Pet Shop Boys and I thought 'Oh that's good, it's a good strong solid name'". Thus, the now-iconic surname was inspired by the Pet Shop Boys frontman.

A Family of Talent

The Tennant family's creative legacy continues to grow. Their 14-year-old daughter, Olive Tennant, has recently secured a significant acting role alongside her famous father. She will star as Camilla Baddingham, the daughter of David's character Lord Tony Baddingham, in the second season of the Disney+ drama Rivals.

This marks the first time the father-daughter duo will appear on screen together. Olive is no stranger to acting, with previous credits including the Oscar-nominated film Belfast and the BBC series Avoidance.

The couple's large family includes Olive, Wilfred (12), Doris (10), and Birdie (5), as well as Ty (23), Georgia's son from a previous relationship, whom David has adopted. As they embark on this newly official chapter of their shared name, the family continues to blend their personal and professional lives in the public eye.
